Little Genius who?

Six days before the premiere of the Fox show “Our Little Genius” the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) stopped it from airing.

The FCC received a letter December 22, 2009 from a family whose child was to appear in the show. The letter included comments saying that the child received answers by a program’s production staff member.

Four days before the child was to go on for taping, the parents, child and staff member had a review of topics that could be potentially asked. During this review the letter stated that the staff member had given the child answers to at least four questions the child either did not know or was not sure about.

The child’s appearance on the show was canceled because his or her parents asked questions about some of the planned questions.

This show is under investigation because of section 508 of the Communications Act of 1934. This section “makes it illegal for anyone to give, with the intent to deceive the viewing or listening public, assistance that will affect the outcome.”

It honestly makes me loss hope for these contestant game shows. It is hard to believe that nothing now-a-days is rigged for a specific person to win or gain a leg up on someone else. What happened to honest winning fun? Now it is all about ratings and publicity.

  1. Now that is news to me! Wow! I'm surprised that they would pull the entire show because of that. I didnt even know they had television laws that prohibit things of that nature. But I wasn't expecting those children to be so intelligent. I figured there had to be some type of rigging in there somewhere!

  2. I always question these shows myself. When I see these smart shows, I always feel that in some way, the are rigged. Very bad move for the programming network.

  3. I'm not shocked one bit. I saw the commercials for this show and felt something in the pit of my stomach.

However, this really kills game shows for me.

  4. These networks will do anything to make sure they get their ratings. Who knows which of these primetime game shows have actually run legitimately? Like on Deal or No Deal, what if they told the contestant several of the suitcases that didn't have the biggest amount just to make things more interesting and suspenseful? What a shame. It's just like all the shows that claim to be all fly on the wall on the FOX Reality channel but are really all scripted.

  5. I now can add games shows to my list of television shows not too watch. Not that I watched much of it anyway.

  6. (singing) "I believe the children are our future TEACH THEM WELL and let...." This is a song by Whitney Houston a thousand moons ago and b4 the crack titled "The Greatest Love of All." The producers or who ever gave the child the answers are not teaching them values of earning what life has to offer. They may not see any harm in it because it's for TV. But when the studio lights go off and nobody is watching little Bobby(i don't know the kids name) and he does something that he isn't suppose to, we can not fully blame him because that's something that he was taught
