During a taping of the Today Show, the anchor lady mistaken the identity of the Canadian marathon runner Terry Fox with the known actor Michael J. Fox.
Terry Fox is known for raising millions of dollars for cancer research. He is also deceased and even had a prosthetic leg.
Unfortunately during the video taping they don't show if the anchor lady even corrected herself after making the shocking mistake.
I always thought news anchors and reports knew a little something about what they were about to report on, before actually reporting on it. I wonder if she didn't do her homework learning the facts, or just got a little nerves and forgot. And why didn't anyone correct her is what I want to know. Come on people!!!
Everyone makes mistakes, and we should be lenient when people do. This is a major gaffe, but I'm sure it was eventually corrected, albeit if at a later date. I'm sure anchors have had worse on camera moments (Bill O'Reilly on Inside Edition during the commercial break anyone? Youtube it, you won't regret it), and while it's obvious that Michael J. Fox hasn't run any marathons lately, I'd be willing to cut this woman some slack.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Put down your pitch forks and torches. Mistakes were made. Michael J. Fox really shouldn't be upset, and if he is then he is kind of sensitive.

Ha, I think that it's funny. No not the leg part! the fact that the reporter gave the wrong name. Yes we all make mistakes and this is a prime example as to why we should do our homework and study prior to getting a mic in our hands. Im sure if she or anyone around her knew that she made a mistake with the name, they would have corrected her on the spot. Letting your homeboy or homegirl go on with that kind of mistake is messed up.
ReplyDeleteWow, I actually didn't know Michael J Fox was a marathon runner. On the Today Show, they made a mistake the other morning as well but they later corrected it within the show. Nothing to get too upset about, as long as it's corrected so credit is given to whom its due.
