Though the Super Bowl sold out of all their alloted commercial slots this is not the reason for the rejection.
CBS simply stated, "After reviewing the ad - which is entirely commercial in nature - our Standards and Practices department decided not to accept this particular spot. As always, we are open to working with the client on alternative submissions."
After this rejection ManCrunch spokesperson Elissa Buchter, said that CBS was discriminating against the gay dating commercial.
The money is not the problem Buchter goes on to say, if it was a commercial with a man and woman kissing they would have allowed it.
You can view the commercial through the first link above. When I saw the commercial I did not really see anything wrong with the it. It was actually quite comical, like it was suppose to be a joke. You really don't see the advertisement of the dating site for that long.
This is possibly why they rejected it, not because it is a gay dating site, but because it lacks a serious effort.
The news article also stated that this commercial could have been put together just to be rejected, for the publicity it would bring forth.
It seems as if each network is allowed to pick and choose which commercials they want to air.
ReplyDeleteIf they don't want to air a gay dating sight commercial than they don't have to.
I don't think they are necissarily discriminating against the commercial I just think they are being safe.
Like Tim Tebows abortion commercial the subject of gay's is always very touchy and there will always be someone who will say there is discrimination no matter what the situation is.
As a homosexual, I believe that this is not about discrimination. I think people in general use the discrimination card way to often.
ReplyDeleteYes, I also believe that if a network doesn't want to air an ad then that is their call.
Also, and I in NO WAY MEAN TO DISCRIMINATE....
What gay person watches the superbowl?
CBS made the wrong move in their response to this ad. When they said after reviewing the ad, that it wont be played had to tell them that people were going to explode on CBS. When your already going through problems with the Tebow ad, you simply can reject this type of film for the content. Simply say we dont have any spots left.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, would you really see any ads of any straight people making out on a couch during the super bowl? Well maybe. But all in all it's not like the two guys making out is for the sake of anything overly funny. If this were the case, then I would see more of a point to it. And it is definitely up to CBS to decide what they want to affiliate their company with.
ReplyDeletePintsizepont-too cute! I agree that if its my company and I decide not to take your business than thats up to me. I would not want to risk of having major backlash. I strongly believe that once someone decides to break the ice everyone is gonna wish that they were first to have this type of advertisement.
